Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy-balancing technique that works holistically: mind, body and spirit. Unlike a massage, you are fully clothed. The practitioner will place their hands on or hover them over energetic centers of the person's body (chakras) with the goal of directing energy to help facilitate the person’s own healing response. Many individuals report feeling a relaxed, meditative state during and after their session.
Reiki is now used in major hospital settings.
A Washington Post article estimates that over 800 US hospitals have integrated Reiki as a part of their educational offerings and patient services. The Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine & Digestive Center in Maryland offers Reiki to its patients “to create deep relaxation, to help speed healing, reduce pain, and decrease other symptoms you may be experiencing”. It is estimated by the Healing Touch Professional Association that "over 30,000 nurses in US hospitals use touch practices every year". Reiki is now covered by some insurances as part of an adjunct treatment during hospital stays, palliative care, physical therapy, and massage therapy treatments.

Meditation
What is meditation?
According to Headspace, "Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings. You’re learning to observe them without judgment. And eventually, you may start to better understand them as well."
The science-based benefits of meditation
Developing a meditation practice can offer a multitude of health benefits, according to Dr. Matthew Thorpe, contributing author to Healthline. Participants have experienced measurable improvements in stress reduction, controlling anxiety, emotional well-being, enhanced self-awareness, and increased attention span, memory, sleep, and pain tolerance.
